Steve Deaver of Holyoke purchased a three-barreled Marston Derringer at a gun show about six months ago. He recently shipped it off to be used as a prop in “The Lone Ranger.” After the scene has been shot, the gun will be shipped back to Deaver.
City of Holyoke received a letter from Drake Real Estate Services Inc. of Denver asking for a commitment to pave the alley traveling north from Highway 6 behind Holyoke Community Federal Credit Union to KarDale’s Restaurant. The request comes as the company is looking to construct a building that would house a proposed Family Dollar store.
Grainland Cooperative agronomy plant manager Jim Austin was seriously injured following an anhydrous ammonia leak March 22 at Grainland’s east location on Highway 23 northeast of Holyoke.

Jill Gooden, certified physical therapist assistant, is on board full time at Physical Therapy Clinic of Holyoke, which is operated at 143 S. Interocean as part of Melissa Memorial Hospital.
A valuable addition was recently made to the Holyoke Volunteer Fire Department in the form of a new Jaws of Life. The equipment can be instrumental in rescue situations.
Holyoke coaches Erv Mondt and Jim Gribben were recently honored by the Colorado High School Coaches Association for their decades of service. Mondt received a plaque for coaching football for more than 30 years. Gribben was recognized for coaching junior high volleyball for 20 years, and he has an additional 19 years of experience at the high school level.

The Christian Teen Center, located in the rear of the Holyoke Drug Store, will be open to the teenagers of Holyoke for the first time Saturday, April 1. The center has a 22-foot table shuffle board, billiards table, pingpong tables, tennis tables and other game tables. There is a wide variety of Christian books, a refrigerator filled with pop and a candy case. The center is also equipped with a tape deck stereo and a TV set for the enjoyment of everyone.
Donkey ball, the world’s craziest sport, comes to Holyoke on April 1. This ball game, played from the backs of trained donkeys, is reputed wilder than a rodeo and funnier than a circus. The game, sponsored by the Holyoke chapter of the Future Farmers of America, will be held in the Holyoke High School gym.
Colorado’s 1972 Pork All-American is Jerry Cox of Holyoke. He received the award in Kansas City, Missouri, during the American Pork Congress, as Colorado’s outstanding young hog producer this year.

The Highline Electric Association received word from Washington, D.C., Tuesday morning, April 1, that an allotment for $700,000 had been approved by the Rural Electrification Administrator. Part of the money will be used to extend power lines into Washington, Yuma, Logan, Weld and Sedgwick counties. $285,000 allotted last May will be used to build the Sterling, Julesburg, Crook extension.
For the first time in the history of the state, every section of Colorado is represented on the State Board of Health. The governor followed the law recently enacted and named two members from each congressional district.
