    Melissa Memorial Hospital recently signed a letter of agreement with Alison Lauber, who is boarded in family medicine and hospice and palliative medicine. She is expected to begin her tenure in Holyoke in June.
    A $110,472 grant was received by Phillips County from History Colorado for the windows at the courthouse. The total project, estimated at $145,972, will rework all the outside windows and replace all the existing inside storm windows.
    Jeff and Tricia Michael’s family recently had the opportunity to visit Kayango, Uganda, Africa, where they sponsor children through Children’s HopeChest.

    A new full-service fertilizer plant system was recently installed at Grainland Co-op’s liquid fertilizer plant northeast of Holyoke. The new plant has three separate systems that operate independently of each other to increase the speed and efficiency with which the fertilizer blend is produced.
    Ballyneal Golf and Hunt Club in Holyoke has been ranked the 53rd best golf course in the world by Top 100 Golf Courses, the only independent website dedicated to the top golf courses of the world. The course was also ranked 27th in the USA and the best course in Colorado.
    Mike Munn retired from Grainland Cooperative on Feb. 25 after 17 years with the company.

    Debbie Dusenbury was named Star of the Year at the first annual Chamber of Commerce Gala, which was held March 6 in the HHS commons area.
    Cellular One of Northeast Colorado has completed construction of a tower and cell site at Holyoke. Engineering studies are underway to determine the location of additional sites to complete the coverage of northeast Colorado.
    Nearly a third of the losses from a December burglary at Baldwin Chevrolet have been recovered. Losses totaled approximately $97,000 and included a 1994 pickup, 12 toolboxes full of tools and shop equipment. The sheriff’s office has recovered around $30,000 of the losses, including the pickup, one toolbox and some of the tools.
    Amy and Allen Einspahr purchased Frame It Up from Deb and Vince Kropp at the first of the year. Amy is now operating the frame shop out of their home 1 3/4 miles east of the stoplight.

    The Holyoke board of trustees passed six new ordinances on second reading at the meeting Monday. The dog control ordinance is not a leash law; however, it is unlawful for a dog to “run at large.” The other five ordinances have to do with building and housing codes.
    Charles Bird, area horticulturist, recently became a member of Colorado State University’s area staff. He is headquartered at the Phillips County office in the courthouse annex in Holyoke. Bird’s recent appointment completed the area Extension staff of 12 personnel.

March 9, 1944

    The Holyoke Pirates (grade school cagers) went to Sedgwick on March 3 to play in the Northeastern Colorado Grade School Tournament and came home the champions. They were thus enabled to keep the tourney plaque for a second year and are to receive a trophy as token of their championship, which will belong to the school permanently.
    The annual convention of the American Legion and Auxiliary of Phillips County, a “War Rally” will be held in the local Legion auditorium Thursday night, March 16, in which three state speakers will appear on the program here.
    The desire to help farmers get top production from every available acre in this crucial war year and in 1945 dominates the streamlined program of conservation practices recently announced by the War Food Administration, now open to Phillips County farmers.
