    A ribbon-cutting ceremony for Holyoke’s new all-weather track is planned for Saturday morning, April 5, at the HHS Invitational, the first track meet in Holyoke in 26 years.
    The 13th Judicial District Nominating Commission will meet April 25 to interview and select nominees for appointment by the governor to the office of county judge for Phillips County. The vacancy will be created May 30 by the retirement of the Honorable David O. Colver.
    The Western Golf Association Scholarship Committee recently awarded Alyssa Cordova the Chick Evans Caddie Scholarship to the University of Colorado-Boulder, beginning fall 2014.
    Colver, Killin & Sprague LLP, a Holyoke attorney office, moved to 216 S. Interocean Ave., the former O’Neal office building, on March 24. The half-block move from 131 W. Emerson St. allows more divided space to accommodate attorneys David Colver, Kim Killin and Russell Sprague, as well as office staff Desiree Mosenteen and Aly Brinkema.

    Grandma’s “New to You” has captured the front portion of Deaver Hardware’s north side at 110 S. Interocean Ave. Nora Deaver said she is trying to start the “buy, sell and trade” part of the antique and collectible business and will also consign items on eBay for customers.
    Caryl Harvey recently self-published two novels — “The Gold Train Connection” and “Back to Reason” — under her pen name, Anne Caryl.
    Dennis and Joyce Weaver announced they have closed the doors at their local business, D&J Hardware, located at 308 E. Denver St. in Holyoke.
    Max Hines is the new pastor at Holyoke Assembly of God church.

    Sue Sporhase has been named Phillips/Sedgwick County victims assistance program coordinator for the relatively new program in the county.
    Jim and Candace Vonderwahl of Aurora and Billie Vonderwahl of Joes purchased the Frenchman Mobile Home Park in Holyoke from Richard and JoDell Murray on April 1.
    Beginning April 4, Phillips County road crews changed to a work week involving four 10-hour days, 7 a.m.-5:30 p.m. Monday-Thursday. This schedule is being conducted on a trial basis in order to achieve a higher level of productivity and to perhaps eliminate some overtime.

April 3, 1969

    Cecil Smith, owner and operator of the O.K. Tire store here, says to watch for the opening of the Conoco station on East Denver Street sometime next week. The station has been closed for several months. Dwight Chaffin will operate the station for Cecil.
    The annual Farmers and Businessmen banquet, sponsored by the Holyoke Chamber of Commerce and the Haxtun Commercial Club, was held last Friday evening in the Haxtun Grade School cafeteria, with approximately 145 attending. Dr. Louis O. Grant of the atmospheric research department at Colorado State University in Fort Collins, was the featured speaker for the evening.

    “Holyoke Day” at North Platte Canteen on March 31, sponsored by Holyoke Club No. 406, Navy Mothers Clubs of America, went over with a bang, with backing by clubs and individuals from almost every section of the county, the business houses, farmers and individuals of Holyoke. In round numbers, we fed 3,600 members of the armed forces.
    A new X-ray machine has just been installed in the Holyoke hospital. Dr. H.C. Hill and his hospital staff are fortunate to get the new X-ray at a time when such equipment is not generally available to civilians. The machine, an expensive one, was originally intended for overseas use.
