    A website containing everything from commissioners minutes to rental forms was recently launched and unveiled by Phillips County.
    Holyoke social studies teacher Luke Thomas was recently awarded one of two Patricia A. Behring Teacher of the Year Awards at National History Day in Denver.

    Jennifer Boettner of Estes Park was offered a one-year contract as principal of Holyoke Elementary School at the May 22 meeting of the Re-1J Board of Education.
    HHS student Nicole Brandt will be touring with New Way Singers this June.
    Despite rainy patches of weather here and there, the new hospital building project remains on schedule, with the date of completion still scheduled for Jan. 30, 2008.

    Drought, winterkill and frost are cause for great concern in the farming community this year. Drought stress on this year’s wheat has been of great concern this spring, and the May 25 freeze in the area added additional reason for worry for both wheat and corn crops.
    A Merchants Day promotion will be held this Saturday, June 6, sponsored by Holyoke Chamber of Commerce. A 5K run, bicycle races, sidewalk sales and a barbecue are all on Saturday’s agenda.
    Central Street Shoppes has announced some recent changes to its store roster. The Flower Station is now called The Oak Tree, as owner Jody Fiscus has closed the fresh flower portion of the business. B&B Unique Treasures opened there this week after moving from its previous location at 430 E. Denver St., where the business had been called B&B Sales. Owners Gerald and Donna Benker indicated that they will continue to offer a selection of jewelry and a wide variety of gift items at the new location.
    An atrazine spill on Highway 6 just east of the Holyoke city limits last Friday was quickly controlled and cleaned up through a team effort involving Holyoke Co-op Fertilizer plant crew, Holyoke Volunteer Fire Department, Colorado State Patrol and other local law enforcement officers.

    Again this summer, a group of youthful Holyoke athletes will compete in the Junior Olympics at Boulder on July 8.
    An examination for postmaster at Holyoke, a position that pays $7,665 a year, will be open for acceptance of applications until June 20, the Civil Service Commission has announced.
    Soaking rains have continued to fall across the High Plains during the past week, and the sun has been fleetingly visible only once or twice since last Thursday. Since the current wet spell began a week ago, Holyoke had had 3.49 inches of rain as of 3:30 p.m. yesterday.

    June 4, 1942

    Phillips County housewives who plan to can or preserve fruits during the summer months must file special applications at the office of the local rationing board. The sugar rationing order No. 3 has been revised, and family units or individuals will be able to obtain not more than 1 pound of sugar for each 4 quarts of finished fruits to be packed. In addition, not more than 1 pound of sugar per person may be authorized for use in preserves, jams, jellies and butters.
    Special memorial services were held Saturday as a part of the Memorial Day program at the Legion Hall for Richard Owens and John Zeiler, who were on the battleship Arizona when it was bombed at Pearl Harbor Dec. 7, 1941.
    George Zeiler this week has moved his plumbing shop to the building south of the Norman Cafe from the old bank building where he had been located for several years.
