Phillips County Sheriff Rob Urbach submitted his resignation, effective Nov. 22, to the Phillips County commissioners on Nov. 6. Urbach said he has accepted a job with the state of Colorado, and he and his wife will be moving to the Front Range.
Eric Luedke of Holyoke shot a five-by-five bull elk near the Phillips County Landfill several miles west of Holyoke last Wednesday, Nov. 1.
The 90th National FFA Convention & Expo was held in Indianapolis, Indiana, Oct. 25-28, and 11 members of the Holyoke FFA chapter joined over 67,000 in attendance. Holyoke FFA alumni Josilyn Lutze, Nicholas Ortner, Sidney Struckmeyer and Austin Vieselmeyer were recognized for earning the American FFA Degree, and Wyatt McCallum was a national Agricultural Proficiency Awards finalist.

The new Family Dollar store located at 143 W. Denver St. in Holyoke unlocked the front door Nov. 1 and allowed the public in for the first time.
Holyoke City Council moved forward with rezoning and incentives for Cobblestone Inn and Suites during a special meeting Oct. 29. An official groundbreaking ceremony was held Nov. 6 for the new Cobblestone hotel at the intersection of Interocean Avenue and Johnson Street in Holyoke.

Brenda Krueger stepped into her duties as GPRC activities director after former director Jean Capra resigned her position effective Oct. 31.
After taking over the Blisties restaurant in September, Dale and Karen Jacoby recently verified that the name change to KarDale’s is now official. The Jacobys purchased the restaurant, which is located at County Road 20 and Highway 385, from Jerry and Robina Wolfenden.
Darryl and Jaynee Pedotto recently bought the Water Works business from Steve and Jeff Sullivan. The business distributes jugs of fresh water to clients in the community.
Out of nearly 10,000 nominees, Holyoke High School senior Aaron Sprague is a National Award Finalist in the 1997 Wendy’s High School Heisman Program.

Package transportation services for Colorado residents will be expanded dramatically Monday as United Parcel Service will begin moving packages between Colorado and a service area covering 39 other states. At present, the company’s service area between points within the state is limited to points east of the Continental Divide. UPS has been in the package delivery business since 1907 and presently offers its service in 43 entire states and parts of three others.
The Holly Daze Christmas fair, sponsored by the Extension Homemakers clubs of Phillips County and held at St. Patrick Catholic Church in Holyoke last Saturday, was attended by 320 ladies.
Harvest of the corn crop for grain has been slowed considerably by wet fields and is only about 35% completed.

A transaction was completed this week whereby Max G. Heginbotham and J.W. O’Neal purchased the Holyoke Motor Co. from Leslie L. Kunkel and O.R. Coglizer. The new owners took possession of the business Wednesday.
After a careful and most unprejudiced counting of votes, the official list of Holyoke’s 10 Best-Dressed Women has been compiled. As selected by Enterprise readers (not listed according to the number of votes received), they are: Mrs. C.E. Channer, Mrs. J. Harold Ellis, Mrs. F. Scheunemann, Mrs. Wayne Ellis, Mrs. A.H. Beal, Mrs. Rex Evans, Mrs. J.W. O’Neal, Mrs. J. Glen Wilcox, Mrs. Guy Blincow and Mrs. Irene Hill.
Frank Berger, former Phillips County sheriff, was elected mayor of the city of Greeley at its election held Nov. 4.
The habit of keeping library books over the allotted time has become so pronounced that some cities are now using policemen to go and get the books. The folks who kept the books overtime not only have to pay for the overtime but the policeman as well for his trip.
