Pell preps for medical career
Nobel Prize winners, scientists with breakthrough discoveries and recipients of incredible medical innovations all convened in Lowell, Massachusetts, June 25-27.
Incoming HHS senior Mariah Pell was there, too.
Pell was one of only five Coloradans among thousands of high school students attending the Congress of Future Medical Physicians at the University of Massachusetts. Students heard from over a dozen speakers, including both doctors and their patients in medical breakthroughs among others.
“They were trying to help you find your passion in the medical field,” said Pell. “I really enjoyed being able to meet and talk with them.”
Sponsored by VFW Post No. 6482 and American Legion Post No. 90, Pell received a donation from the organizations, independently fundraised and also received a scholarship from the National Academy of Future Physicians and Medical Scientists in order to attend. Her brother, Chris Pell, attended the conference with her as a chaperone.
“This program helped me decide that when I go into the medical field, I want to be a pediatrician,” said Pell, naming Dr. Daniel Amen, a speaker at the event and a world-reknowned neuroscientist and psychiatrist.
