Phillips County Fair set to be another wild ride

Phillips County Fair organizers recently announced the schedule for the July 25-31 fair, and the week is packed with events and competitions for the whole family at the fairgrounds in Holyoke.

This year’s theme is “Country Pride County Wide.” Harlan and Mona Stern are serving as the grand marshals, and Sawyer Sigler is the 2022 fair princess.

The week kicks off with 4-H general project judging Monday.

Tuesday begins with the horse show in the morning and is capped with barrel racing at 6 p.m.

Open class items can be entered Wednesday afternoon, and the ranch rodeo is set for that evening at 6 p.m.

Thursday’s livestock shows include poultry, rabbits, goats and swine. Thursday is also family fun night, including an escape room from 5-8 p.m., goat roping at 6 p.m. and a movie at 8 p.m.

Dairy cow, beef and sheep shows will take place Friday, followed by the parade of champions at 4 p.m. Kids games are set for Friday from 3-8 p.m. in addition to a barbecue at 5 p.m. and stock car races at 7 p.m. The night will end with a beer garden and music by Jason Kimble’s Night Sounds.

The 10 a.m. parade on Interocean Avenue kicks off Saturday’s events, followed immediately by kids games at Homesteaders Park. More kids games will take place from noon-8 p.m., and the pet show is at 1 p.m. Round robin competition starts at 1 p.m., followed by the junior livestock sale at 2:30 p.m.

The fair will heat up Saturday night with Bulls Gone Wild! which includes bull riding, bullfighting and mutton bustin’ at 7 p.m. The evening concludes with a beer garden and music by Trent Hughes.

Sunday will start with a community church service, and a tractor pull is scheduled for noon.

Fair royalty applications due April 30

Phillips County is looking for young ladies who are interested in serving as Phillips County Fair royalty for the 2023 fair.

Queen and attendant contestants must be between the ages of 16-20 as of June 1, 2023, and be members in good standing of Phillips County 4-H or FFA.

Girls who are interested in serving as princess need to be between the ages of 12-16 as of June 1, 2023, and be members in good standing of Phillips County 4-H or FFA.
