Phillips County Players hope ‘The 24 Hour Plays’ becomes an annual tradition

The Phillips County Players are ushering in the new school year with hopes to get people of all ages from all across the county involved in a raw, fast-paced day of theater. The concept of “The 24 Hour Plays” is simple: Within the span of 24 hours, a collection of one-act plays will be written, rehearsed and performed for the community. Over the course of a single day, the writers, directors, actors and production staff will go from having nothing to having six never-seen-before plays.

“The 24 Hour Plays” started in New York in 1995 with the idea that artists don’t need a lot of time, money or fancy sets to create an impactful evening of theater. All they needed was each other. The Phillips County Players believe that this show will give interested community members a chance to dabble in theater without making a huge time commitment, while also providing quality entertainment to theatergoers.

It will also be an opportunity to promote the upcoming full-length plays and musicals being produced by students and community members alike.

What to know if you want to participate

The six writing positions are already filled. There are limited director positions open, so if you are interested in directing one of the plays, contact PCP president Penny Dockins at 970-520-2692. The show can accommodate any number of actors, so advanced signup is not required, but it is appreciated.
