Phillips County Raceway heats up at 2019 opening night

Phillips County Raceway roared to life last Saturday, April 20, as a crowd of hundreds came to celebrate the start of the 2019 season with a night of racing and entertainment.
Temperatures crested 80 degrees during Saturday’s opening night event, which meant a dry and dusty track during the day’s heat races. The heat and wind led to delays as drivers lost control in the thick dust.
Fortunately, conditions improved after sunset when the track was watered and packed down enough for a battery of high-speed feature events.
Organizer Joe Bellm, who also won the stock division, said about 60 cars turned out for the races, including some out-of-towners who visited for the first race of the new Tri-State Tour.
