Pool control system to be reviewed

Holyoke Swimming Pool’s outdated control system is set to be reviewed and modernized. City Superintendent Mark Brown told Holyoke City Council members at their Nov. 3 meeting that he was scheduled to meet with a representative of Engineered Controls out of Lincoln, Nebraska, to look into updating the control system.

The system controls the air temperature in the locker rooms and office, pool water temperature and humidity in the building. Brown said he hopes to have a cost estimate to report to council members after meeting with the representative.

Council hears reports

Brown reported no power outages since the last meeting. He said crews are working on changing high-pressure sodium streetlights over to LED and that street crews have been picking up leaves.

Brown said water and sewer crews are continuing

to blow out sprinkler systems. He reported on a water main break that occurred Friday, Oct. 30, in the 600 block of East Gordon Street. He said repairs were made without losing pressure to any homes.

Brown reported on a plug of an 8-inch sewer main caused by a large number of wipes. The main was plugged in the alley between the 300 blocks of North Morlan and North Phelan avenues.

Brown also reported on his meeting with the Colorado Water Conservation Board to review flood plain mapping for Phillips County. He said the objective is to put together a program for weather events such as a 100-year or 500-year flood and their effects on the area.

Brown went on to say that the flood plain studies are ongoing and he still has a few more meetings to attend.

Police Chief Doug Bergstrom reported that Holyoke Police Department handled or generated 67 calls for service from Oct. 16-28, including six animal complaints and two municipal code violations under code enforcement.

Bergstrom also said Halloween was fairly uneventful and that there had been a good turnout for the trick-or-treat the town event Friday, Oct. 30.
