Pregnancy resource center debuts mobile ultrasound vehicle

Genesis means the “origin or coming into being of something.” The Genesis mobile medical clinic is not only a new beginning for A Caring Pregnancy Resource Center, but it will also encourage new beginnings for expecting mothers and their babies.
The resource center debuted its shiny new vehicle to over 1,000 people at four annual banquets this past week, including one in Holyoke Saturday, Jan. 26, at the Phillips County Event Center.
The center, which serves six counties in northeast Colorado, wanted to provide an option for women to get free ultrasounds, in addition to the pregnancy tests, emotional support and infant clothing that the nonprofit already offered. But since the center has multiple locations, they didn’t want to set up a clinic at one location and exclude the others.
A mobile medical clinic was the perfect solution. “All the locations can access it,” said Faye Barnhart, executive director of the center.
The vehicle will be available to drive to health fairs and college campuses as well as to serve expecting mothers who have appointments with A Caring Pregnancy Resource Center in Holyoke, Brush, Sterling and Yuma.
The desire to fundraise for a mobile medical clinic was announced at the 2018 annual banquets one year ago. Within days, designated funds and pledges from churches, individuals and Knights of Columbus fundraisers were secured to fully fund the vehicle.
2019 began with the arrival of the $138,000 Genesis mobile medical clinic and a new beginning for the resource center.
An update from the center said they are working on a grant with the Knights of Columbus to purchase an ultrasound machine that will provide a very clear image and even the option of color.
Until then, an older ultrasound was donated by another pregnancy center, and limited ultrasounds will be offered as soon as possible.
