Prepare entries for April 4-7 Phillips County Arts Council art show

    Phillips County Arts Council is pleased to announce that the April 4-7 art show will be judged by Yelena Khanevskaya. Student entries will be judged by Sara Bledsoe of Sterling.
    Khanevskaya was born and raised in Russia and received her art education there. She knew that no matter where life took her, she would always be involved in art on a personal level. She received degrees from the University of Oryol, Russia, including a Masters of Art Education.
    Her studies at the university required proficiency in many different art media, including drawing, oil and watercolor painting, batik, sculpture, and Russian decorative folk arts. She is currently the primary art instructor at Western Nebraska Community College in Scottsbluff.
    Bledsoe attended Colorado Women’s College in Denver where she majored in art. She self-published two books on drawing horses for beginners. She continues to take art classes and improve her skills with new challenges, and she is a member of the Sterling Creative Co-op and Gallery.
    The art show will run from Thursday-Sunday, April 4-7, in the Holyoke High School commons at 545 E. Hale St. Area artists, from amateurs to professionals, and students are encouraged to enter.
    Artwork may be entered Thursday, April 4, from 9 a.m.-1 p.m. Accepted media includes acrylic, china painting, creative stitchery, collage, colored pencil, drawings, fibers, hand-thrown ceramics and pottery, jewelry, mixed media, oil, pastels, pen and ink, pencil, photography-traditional, photography-enhanced, scratch art, sculpture, stained glass, tole painting, watercolor, weaving and wood carving.
    Judging will be held Friday, and Khanevskaya will offer an oral critique for artists and the public from 1:30-3 p.m. The show will open for public viewing on Friday from 4-10 p.m., Saturday from 10 a.m.-10 p.m. and Sunday from 1-3 p.m. Many art pieces will be available for purchase, and everyone is invited to visit the show and appreciate the work of the area artists. Khavenskaya’s artwork will be available for viewing on Friday and Saturday until 3 p.m.
