Recipe Train

This one-pan macaroni and cheese recipe is Susanne Drescher’s go-to for potlucks. “It’s nice because I can put it in the oven before church and then run home and grab it before lunch!” she said. Sometimes Drescher will add ham before cooking, or hot dogs can be placed on top in the last 20 minutes.

Mom’s Mac & Cheese  

3 tablespoons margarine
2 1/2 cups uncooked macaroni
1 teaspoon salt
1/4 teaspoon pepper
3 tablespoons flour
2 cups grated cheese
4 cups milk (not skim)

Melt margarine in 9-by-13-inch casserole dish. Stir in uncooked macaroni. After macaroni is coated with margarine, stir in salt and pepper and flour-coat macaroni. Add and stir in cheese. Finally add and stir in milk.
DO NOT stir while baking.  Bake for 1 hour without lid at 350 F.
