Red kettle campaign needs bell ringers

Silver bells will soon be ringing in Phillips County, and you can be a part of it!

The Salvation Army red kettle campaign is kicking off with bell ringing time slots at two Country Christmas events — Monday, Dec. 2, in Holyoke at the Peerless Theatre, and Tuesday, Dec. 3, in Haxtun at the C-Mart.

The campaign will continue every day from Wednesday, Dec. 4, through Monday, Dec. 23, at Holyoke Marketplace.

On the bell-ringing side, it’s really as simple as it sounds: sign up, show up, ring the bell and watch as people put donations into the kettle. On the donor side, it’s equally simple: on your way past a kettle, just put a donation in the bucket — any amount will help.

A new addition this year is that people can make a donation through Google Pay and Apple Pay on their smartphones. A QR code will be printed on the kettle. Simply scan it, and it will go directly to the Phillips County donation page.

All donations will stay in Phillips County with the local Salvation Army service extension unit. Funds are used year-round to help out residents as well as travelers who are experiencing hardships.

Two volunteers are needed for each shift, and at least one should be 18 years or older.
