Red kettle campaign sees another successful year

Christmas decorations have been taken down, New Year’s resolutions have been made, and the 2018 holiday season is a wrap. Along with that, Phillips County’s Salvation Army unit has deposited the funds raised from the recent red kettle campaign, totaling $2,297.12.
Though that number is just a skosh smaller than the previous year’s, chairperson Ann McConnell said 2018 saw another great campaign. Representatives on the state level were excited about Phillips County’s success, too, she added.
In particular, organizers were happy to see some clubs step up to volunteer. Both Boys Scouts and Fellowship of Christian Athletes signed up to have members ring the bells as a group, and that’s something McConnell would like to see happen more often. Of course, that isn’t to say those who signed up individually weren’t appreciated, too.
“We had some really great volunteers,” McConnell said. “People are always super excited to ring the bells.” Some dressed up with Santa hats or reindeer antlers, and there were more than a few Christmas carols sung.
