Roof proposal accepted

Phillips County Board of Commissioners has accepted a proposal from Rick Ensminger of Ensminger Construction to complete the courthouse drainage project, subject to approval of the specifications by the Colorado Historical Fund.
The County has received a Colorado Historical Fund grant to cover about half the cost of repairing the courthouse roof. The drainage project itself has been quoted at $4,991.
Another big County undertaking still in the works is the pavilion project at the fairgrounds.
Having recently received a $500,000 Energy Impact grant for the project, commissioners discussed how they will proceed. Of the four buildings currently standing in the way of the future pavilion, three will be razed. They include the horse barn, the west beef barn and the scale house. They plan to relocate the sheep/hog building and repurpose it as a maintenance shop. The County is currently looking at vendors to relocate the building.
Also reported at the May 31 meeting of the county commissioners was:
—Hiring of William “J.R.” Myers as deputy sheriff, effective May 8.
—Payment of the full $9,561 toward the Communications Center console upgrade, instead of spreading payments out over three years.
—An invitation from Rep. Ken Buck to discuss the recovery process following the Logan/Phillips County wildfire June 1 at the Haxtun Community Bank.
