Sheriff Urbach resigns post

    Phillips County Sheriff Rob Urbach submitted his resignation, effective Nov. 22, to the Phillips County Commissioners Monday, Nov. 6.
    Urbach said he has accepted a job with the State of Colorado in the auto division of the Department of Revenue. He and his wife, Chris, will be moving to the Front Range, where a majority of their family lives.
    “It was not an easy decision,” Urbach said Tuesday morning. “I have made a lot of friends out here and have appreciated and enjoyed being sheriff.”
    Commissioners will accept applications for the sheriff position from interested individuals until Friday, Nov. 17, at 4:30 p.m.
    The person appointed sheriff will serve until the next general election in November of 2018.

    Urbach has served as Phillips County sheriff for 15 years. He was appointed to the position in June of 2002 and was elected to the post in 2002, 2006, 2010 and 2014.
