Michelle Liang and Alex Villalobos share a laugh as they join the dance floor at the MMHF Building New Bridges event Saturday at the Phillips County Event Center. Despite competing regional events on the same date, 125 attended to dance the night away.

Small crowd, hot dance floor at Building Bridges

“It was a smaller crowd, but they kept the dance floor active,” said Melissa Memorial Hospital Foundation Executive Director Nancy Colglazier of the Building New Bridges event Saturday, June 10, at the Phillips County Event Center.
Competing quinceañeras the same evening in Yuma and Imperial, Nebraska, were likely responsible for the smaller turnout. Colglazier said the event drew numbers from both neighboring communities at the first BNB in October 2016 with a much greater turnout than Saturday’s 125 attendees.
Still, it was an enjoyable event and an important one to MMHF as the foundation continues to reach out to the Hispanic community.
“It was a great evening, bringing our community together while enjoying cultural music,” said Colglazier. “The foundation truly appreciates the local and area businesses who helped make this event possible and successful through sponsorships.”
Featuring the Perfil Norteño Band out of Greeley, BNB raised $9,000, with funds benefiting the MMH expansion project and scholarships for students pursuing medical degrees.
Those who purchased dance tickets for the event were eligible for a cash drawing. Winners were Cecilia Marquez ($500), Elda Ortiz ($300) and Tito Fierro ($200).
