Social distancing for social butterflies: Cruise night offers the best of both worlds
Colorado’s ongoing goal throughout the COVID-19 shutdowns has been finding a sustainable way to keep folks safe. During the stay-at-home order itself, Holyoke may have been eerily quiet, but since then, the community has come alive with creative ways to stay connected while keeping a safe distance. On May 9, folks turned out in full force for a good old-fashioned cruise night sponsored by Holyoke Chamber of Commerce. Restaurants featured specials, encouraging cruisers to pick up dinner to eat on the go. Led by Holyoke Police Department, a seemingly endless parade of cars ranging from family SUVs and minivans to classics and late-model muscle cars cruised south down Interocean Avenue and then east down Johnson Street. Many stayed out all evening, happy to have something to do on a Saturday night.
