Speed and creativity reign in AWANA Grand Prix

Wednesday, April 5, was a night of family fun at Holyoke First Baptist Church, where AWANA clubbers competed in the annual Grand Prix. Students from pre-K through sixth grade meet weekly at the church for the AWANA club, where they sing, study the Bible and play games. Each year they await the car races with great anticipation.
Families worked together in the days leading up to the races to build and decorate pinewood derby cars. Some looked like miniature race cars, and others like tiny pickups. Every color of the rainbow was used, with several cars inspired by favorite sports teams. A hot dog and a unicorn even graced the track. In total, 56 student cars were entered.
