Sporhase, Bussell lead late models

Season finale at PC Raceway set for Sunday, Sept. 1, in Holyoke

Driving Justin Bussell’s late model car, Holyoke’s Garrett Sporhase sped to first place over Bussell in the Aug. 4 stock car racing dirt late model competition at Phillips County Raceway in Holyoke.

Drivers hailed from four states for the racing entertainment, making a showing not only from Colorado and Nebraska but also Kansas and South Dakota.

Speaking of the evening’s races, promoter Joe Bellm said the weather elements, including heat and wind were definitely against them Sunday, but after the sun went down, it was great racing.

As a result of Sunday’s experience, Bellm said they will be starting the season finale Sunday, Sept. 1, at 7 p.m. instead of the regular 5 p.m. The Labor Day holiday the next day makes this more doable, and Bellm feels the heat won’t be as intense with the later start.
