Sporhase opens with racing win

After three postponements of the season opener at Phillips County Raceway, Holyoke driver Garrett Sporhase had a great afternooon Saturday, April 28, claiming the checkered flag for first place in the modified division.
Noon races Saturday in Holyoke were followed by an evening run at Lincoln County Raceway in North Platte, Nebraska, and Sunday afternoon races at I-76 Speedway in Fort Morgan.
With the successful completion of three races in two days, the season is on the move.
From the three-race weekend, $300 bonus money winners were Eddie Belec in modifieds, Travis Demilt in stock cars, Danny Concelman in sport mods and Shad Cooper in hobby stocks.
Twenty-plus drivers followed all three races, according to promoter Joe Bellm, and he was well-pleased that the weather cooperated for a successful completion of the shows to get the season rolling.
Car count in Holyoke was better than expected, said Bellm, noting that Saturday day races typically aren’t as popular.
