Square dancers get folks moving at Barnyard Bash
Clapping hands, tapping feet and even a few brave souls who joined the square dancing pros made for a lively evening at Regent Park last Thursday evening. Residents of both the nursing home and the neighboring Carriage House assisted living facility hosted friends and loved ones for the Aug. 30 Barnyard Bash.
The front parking lot was transformed with hay bales and country decor for the evening’s barbecue dinner. Pit boss Mike Michael had mouths watering before dinner was even served with his aromatic pulled pork, and word on the street was it tasted as good as it smelled.
Entertainment for the evening was presented by square dancers from a number of different clubs in Colorado and Nebraska. While the pros got things started, everyone was invited to join in the dancing. Staff, residents and guests took up the offer and made their way to the dance floor.
Though square dancing is something of a “lost art,” event organizers were excited to bring in an activity that so many residents had previously been involved with themselves.
