Start 2019 with A Healthier Weigh

12-week fitness challenge begins in January

The 2019 “A Healthier Weigh” challenge is set to begin in seven northeast Colorado counties the second full week of January. The AHW challenge encourages increasing activity, making wise food choices and living a healthier lifestyle in 2019.
In Phillips County, adult teams and individuals ready to begin the 12-week health and fitness challenge will weigh in the week of Jan. 7.
All participants will begin recording their daily activity and participating in online lessons the week of Jan. 13.
Through increased activity and making wise food choices, participants in previous years have lost an average of about 5 percent of their beginning weight during the 12 weeks and up to 7 percent of their beginning waist circumference. Since the program promotes overall health and fitness and not just weight loss, weekly weigh-ins are not required.
The program is open to adults, 18 years of age and older. The primary focus of the program is based on a team competition. This team-of-four format provides for more accountability and personal encouragement for participants. However, most counties are allowing for individuals to also participate in the program.
Teams and individuals will earn points for the total steps of activity recorded each week using their own pedometer device such as a smartphone, pedometer watch or waist pedometer. If a participant does not have a pedometer, one will be made available to them at the time of weigh-in.
