The Sunshine Gang creates holiday cheer with entertainment, treats and gift exchange
Christmas season enthusiasts, in excess of 30 people, gathered at the Sunset View community room on Thursday, Dec. 1, to enjoy the festivities organized by the Sunshine Gang.
The party started with the Phillips County Players performing “’Twas the Night Before the Night Before Christmas.” Refreshments were then served, followed by a white elephant gift exchange.
Launched this past October, the Sunshine Gang is intended for people aged 55 and older to get together for social fun and lifelong learning opportunities.
Monthly activities are scheduled for every first Thursday of the month, beginning at 2 p.m. at the Sunset View community room. The group is open to additional ideas for activities not already scheduled.
There is no formal membership needed to join the fun-loving gang. People can just choose to attend any of the events offered.
There is no cost to participate. Most of the needs are met through voluntary donations.

Potluck next on the agenda
The Jan. 5, 2023, event will be a potluck meal. The featured guest speaker, to address medical issues, will be Dr. JD Bailey. Participants will also be able to meet the new Melissa Memorial Hospital CEO, Michael Hassell.
To accommodate more people, the event will be held twice, first at 2 p.m. and again at 6:30 p.m.
