Test your home for radon in January

Gov. Jared Polis has proclaimed January as National Radon Action Month, and the Colorado Department of Public Health and Environment is reminding Colorado citizens to test their homes for radon.

“Testing your home for radon is simple and should be done when all your doors and windows are closed,” said Chrystine Kelley, radon program manager for the department. “That’s why January is a great time to test, during National Radon Action Month.”

Radon is a gas that you cannot smell, see or taste that comes naturally from the earth. It is radioactive and can easily enter homes and buildings through small openings. The surgeon general lists radon exposure as the second leading cause of lung cancer in the United States.
