High winds whistled and wailed through Holyoke and the surrounding area Wednesday, Dec. 15. Gusts as high as 81 mph knocked over numerous trees in the city and caused other property damage. Pictured above is a 125-foot blue spruce that was located at a house on South Phelan Avenue. When it blew down, it straddled the 200 block of East Gordon Street, blocking the entire street off from traffic. — Patty Freel
