Youth actors sought for auditions June 10

Mudville, Mudville, Mudville. Why does that name sound so familiar? No, you’ve probably never traveled there, but you’ve likely heard reference to it in the 1888 poem “Casey at the Bat” by Ernest Thayer.
While “Casey at the Bat” has been called the most famous baseball poem ever written, “Miracle in Mudville” by D.W. Gregory is a play that’s widely unknown. Though the main characters in the two works share the name Casey, that’s about where the similarities end.
In “Miracle in Mudville,” Casey is a kid who happens to be the worst ballplayer in the Mudville Little League. He’s the butt of jokes and an embarrassment to his dad, who brags of his glory days in the outfield.
Auditions for the Phillips County Players production of the show are open to all youth ages 10-16 and will be held Monday, June 10, at 7 p.m. in the Peerless gym. A weekly rehearsal schedule will be determined at auditions.
