Yuma photographer to exhibit at The Orphanage

David “Gus” Gustafson will display his photographs at The Orphanage in Yuma during the month of April. On display will be wildlife photos, landscape and night sky images.

This Yuma resident was a math teacher and sports coach in the Yuma school system for 29 years. To promote and support his students, he began photographing his athletes and sharing those photos with their families and the local newspaper.

Now retired, Gustafson continues his sports photography and has expanded his interests to include landscape and astrophotography. Also known as astronomical imaging or night sky photography, astrophotography uses extended exposure times to capture celestial objects and events. This type of photography dates to the mid-19th century, but advances in digital technology now allow for wonderfully detailed astronomical images.
