Midgets were the highlight of Friday, June 30, action at Phillips County Raceway. Nineteen racers in the Rocky Mountain Midget Racing Association made the trek to Holyoke to compete.
The following article, printed in the Omaha Daily Bee March 14, 1888, tells the story of Lizzie Gordon, a 25-year-old woman credited with founding Holyoke.
