Herman, Taylor break school basketball records

Boys team celebrates awards, state championship

In an evening dedicated to reliving the best parts of a successful 2016-17 season, the HHS boys basketball team enjoyed an awards presentation and celebration at Blisties Saturday, April 8.
Coach Scott Dille recognized the boys basketball team efforts, which resulted in a Holyoke varsity 2A state championship with a 22-4 record. The JV team had an 11-5 season, and C team was 5-7.
Assisting Dille this season were coaches Keith Pocock and Logan Krueger.
“This program is built on the sweat of others” who came before, said Dille. “Each year, the kids we have push the bar a little higher.”
Several school records were set throughout the state championship-winning season. Austin Herman set three of them. After setting the school record for career blocks at 163 as a junior last year, his 90 blocks as a senior upped the school record to 253. This record is also the 10th all-time record in Colorado across all classifications.
Herman set the school record for most rebounds in a game with 28 pulled down at the district tournament game with Akron Feb. 23. This number tied him for 10th on the all-time Colorado boys basketball list, as well.
He also tied the state record for free-throw percentage in a state tournament (requiring a minimum 15 attempts) at 75 percent.
M.J. Taylor broke the school record for single-season 3-point field goal percentage at 50 percent.
As a team, the boys broke the single-season school record for 3-pointers made with 148.
