Dr. Tim Meyer brings full-service eye care

No more traveling needed — Holyoke has its very own eye doctor, and he’ll be in town 30 hours per week.

Beginning in early May, Dr. Tim Meyer, an optometrist from Grant, Nebraska, with 36 years experience, will see patients Monday-Wednesday at the new Holyoke Family Eye Care clinic located in the rural health clinic end of Melissa Memorial Hospital at 1001 E. Johnson St. in Holyoke.

Opening day of the eye care clinic is dependent on when inventory and equipment arrive and various licenses are finalized. However, Mary Kay Knode at the specialty clinic is taking names for those wanting to schedule appointments and will contact those on the list once a date is determined.

Meyer, who is married to Kathy Meyer, FNP, at MMH, started his optometry career in Grant 36 years ago. “I started with two empty rooms and a receptionist, and over time I built it into a practice in four different towns with three doctors and 15 employees,” said Meyer.

He sold his practice to his associates a few years ago to give them some independence and began looking for another opportunity. “This seemed to be an ideal situation,” said Meyer, “and now here I am again with four empty rooms!”

With two exam rooms, an office and a fourth room slated for “Holyoke Family Optical,” where patients can purchase glasses frames and other optical products Monday-Friday, Meyer hopes to offer the latest technology there is in eye care. “One-stop shopping” is the goal, with general, medical and trauma-related eye care all available.

Besides offering basic vision exams and services, Meyer has worked with four different ophthalmologists, or eye surgeons, over the course of his career. “That really increased my proficiency in treating all eye diseases and injuries, especially related to diabetes, glaucoma and macular degeneration,” he said.
