CSU Extension to host sports nutrition webinar

“It’s not the will to win that matters — everyone has that. It’s the will to prepare to win that matters,” said Paul “Bear” Bryant, long-time head coach of six national champion football teams at the University of Alabama.

With the end of school and the summer months ahead, now is the time that most student-athletes and parents plan their summer time around recreational activities, sports skill camps, summer leagues and open-gym. The summer is also a time for the individual athlete to gain not only in skills and knowledge of the game and their individual abilities, but to gain in preparing their bodies properly for the upcoming sports seasons.

Many sports programs include a strength and/or speed program through the summer to accomplish this goal. During this crucial time for developing more muscle, flexibility, balance, speed and power, the athletic body needs to be fueled properly in order to meet this new level of demands. Proper nutrition should always be a part of preparation for practice and competition. The summer months can be a great time to practice to implement these sound nutritional practices so that when the time arises during a competition, athletes are ready to compete at their highest level.

Colorado State University Extension in Phillips County has partnered with Pamela Bartz, the CSU director of sorts nutrition, to support parents in providing proper nutrition for their student-athlete through a webinar presentation. All parents of young athletes are invited to a free webinar Tuesday, May 30, from 6-7:30 p.m. in the Holyoke High School auditorium.
