Holyoke gets its nickel’s worth at a ‘Jukebox Concert’

Holyoke junior high and high school bands presented a “Jukebox Concert” Monday, May 8, at the HHS auditorium.
A brief, eclectic concert of familiar tunes, director Chris Lampkin said that students had been asking to play songs they recognized or had heard on the radio for a change.
The junior high concert band opened the program with “Ancient City of Stone.” It was enthusiastically followed with an arrangement of “Ghostbusters,” complete with shouting out the title on cue with the music. Junior high students finished their portion of the program with “A New Orleans Moment,” featuring high school soloists Emily Krogmeier on alto saxophone and Whitney Powell on tenor sax.
The JR/SR high school wind ensemble took the stage to perform “Fanfare for the Third Planet,” which featured percussion soloists Logan Higgs on snare drum and Jarrett Woodhead on timpani.
