    Holyoke Elementary special education teacher Lynette Harms is retiring after a teaching career that has spanned over 20 years and many areas of study.
    HHS junior Deyten Klein recently found out he has been selected for the Omaha National World Series scheduled to be held next month in Omaha, Nebraska.
    Gene Daise was one of six Coloradans inducted into the National Wrestling Hall of Fame at the Colorado Chapter Honors Banquet Saturday, May 12.
    The eight-plex owned by Tom Bennett on the south side of town is seeing a similar building going up just to the south of it. Construction began March 20 on the new apartment building, which will help Holyoke offer more rental housing.

    A Homecoming Celebration commemorating the 70th birthday of the Assembly of God Church located at 1220 S. Baxter Ave. in Holyoke will be held Sunday, May 20.
    The local retail natural gas distribution utility has unveiled its new name — SourceGas — to reflect its clean, efficient and reliable products and services. SourceGas is launching its new name and image to customers and the general public following the completion of its sale to GE Energy Financial Services and Alinda Investments LLC from Kinder Morgan.
    In a matter of minutes, car owners at the pumps saw a quick jump in gas prices May 11 as unleaded gasoline climbed 15 cents from $3.14 per gallon to $3.29.

    Cellular telephones, the most advanced personal communication system available for general use, can now be used in the Holyoke-Haxtun-Julesburg area in northeast Colorado. Brought to the area by Cellular One of Northeast Colorado, based in Fort Morgan, the cellular phone system went into service May 8.
    A career in education which spans 30 years will come to a close for Jim Drescher June 1 as he takes disability retirement from a profession he’s enjoyed in Holyoke for the past 28 years.
    Scholl Oil & Transportation Company is celebrating their 60th anniversary. J.G. “Jake” Scholl moved to Holyoke in 1932 to start the Holyoke Independent Oil Company. Now the company’s history includes not only the oil business but also a Ford auto dealership, farm machinery sales, parts office, stations and cafes, a trucking line, bulk fuel transport, a service center and a two-way radio business that evolved into an extensive communication system.

    May 18, 1967

    After several years of informal consideration, the Phillips County Historical Society was organized Tuesday evening at a meeting in Paoli.
    George Arkulari has opened a repair shop at 115 E. Carnahan St. in the building that formerly housed Rocky’s Body Shop. An experienced mechanic, Arkulari will do repair work on autos, trucks, tractors, irrigation motors, etc. The business will be known as Arkie’s Repair.

    May 21, 1942

    The severe wind storm, accompanied by hail, last Tuesday did considerable damage in this community to crops and buildings. The hail damage to crops was heavier near Amherst, moving in a southeasterly direction, while the wind and hail damage to buildings was heavier east of here. The hail stones, which were reported as large as baseballs, broke out a large number of window panes.
    Construction of a substantial addition to the grain storage facilities of the Holyoke Cooperative Association will be begun this week, L.L. Yowell, manager of the association, announced Tuesday. The addition will be built west of the present structure and will have a capacity of about 30,000 bushels.
    A drive is being made this week by Holyoke Implement Company, in conjunction with the International Harvester dealers of the entire nation, to get scrap metal on the farms moving to the steel mills and foundries so that the scrap metal may be used for war material.
