Show and shine at the center of Saturday’s Dandelion Daze

In its 17th year of bringing both classic and late model cars to town, the Dandelion Daze car show will be back on the Phillips County Courthouse lawn this Saturday, June 17. Cars aren’t the only thing worth seeing Father’s Day weekend at the event that promises fun for the entire family.
    Bright and early, the Dandelion Dash 5K run/walk, put on by Holyoke Rec Department and Holyoke Fitness Club, will begin at 8 a.m. The starting line is at the City Park, and even those who have not preregistered can still get in on the action by signing up the morning of.     Also beginning at 8 a.m. is registration for the first-ever Melissa Memorial Hospital poker run at the courthouse. Proceeds will benefit the Holyoke Chamber of Commerce. First out is 9 a.m. and last in is 2 p.m. Stops will be in Venango, Grant, Imperial and Benkelman, Nebraska, followed by Wray before returning to Holyoke.     Cars and bikes can be registered for the show from 8-11 a.m. They will be on display for the show and shine until 3 p.m. At 2:30 p.m., awards will be presented at the west courthouse steps for top 15, rodders’ choice, people’s choice and top bike. At 3 p.m., car owners are invited to cruise down main street to the Regent Park care center parking lot.
    Valve cover racing will be held 11 a.m.-1 p.m. Also at the courthouse will be kid favorites, including balloons, games, face painting, sidewalk chalk and a bounce house. Food vendors, as well as exhibitor, craft and informational booths, will be set up from 9 a.m.-3 p.m. Opportunities for breakfast and lunch will be available on site. There is still time for interested vendors to sign up for booth space.
    Nearby, the Phillips County Museum will be open from noon-4 p.m. Its transportation area, which houses a Hupmobile, Model T and much more, should be of special interest to car show participants.
