Create a pet preparedness kit and plan

In trying to become better prepared for the next Colorado disaster, many may discuss and create plans for themselves and family, but there is one family member that is often overlooked — the pet. One of the biggest reasons people return to danger/evacuation zones is to save their pets.
    Use these pet preparedness tips:
Build a kit. Just like people should do for themselves, create a 72-hour preparedness kit for pets. Make sure they have extra food, water, medications and toys in case it’s not possible to get to a store or evacuation happens on short notice.
Have a plan. The plan needs to include how to transport animals in an evacuation, possible routes to take, and destination or sheltering options. Know which friends, relatives, boarding facilities or animal shelters can care for animals in an emergency. Have a list of phone numbers readily available.
