Indoor events center at the fairgrounds? Group in process of studying feasibility and moving forward if possible
YUMA PIONEER, June 29 — A group of interested Yuma County residents are working toward the development of a large indoor events center to be located at the Yuma County Fairgrounds.
The group’s goal is to have at least conceptual drawings produced in time for the Yuma County Fair Aug. 5-9. Students in the College of Architecture & Planning at the University of Colorado-Denver are working on the conceptual drawings.
Early plans call for the building to be 250 feet by 350 feet, with a clear-expanse roofing system. The size is much larger than any other events center found in the area.

2-year wheat trial yields at Stumpf center among the best in the state
GRANT TRIBUNE-SENTINEL, June 28 — University of Nebraska Crop Specialist Bob Klein of North Platte, Nebraska, couldn’t be prouder of the crop research being done at the Henry J. Stumpf International Wheat Center in Grant.
Over the first two years of wheat variety trials at the center, yields in test plots were among the top in the state.
He told the crowd of nearly 100 people attending the Nebraska Extension’s field day at the wheat center Tuesday, June 20, that yields at the center averaged 64.5 bushels/acre.
That figure tied with a plot trial in Furnas County, Nebraska. He said those results are amazing, considering the center is only in its third year of operation.
