1926 — Lloyd Atkins is pictured lying on a load of shucked corn in 1926. His family moved to Colorado in 1916 and settled on a farm 3 miles west and 1 1/2 miles north of Haxtun. The corn in the northeastern quarter of the county was badly injured by the heat and dry weather in 1926. Corn on the sandy land in the northwest and south parts of the county was not damaged much by the drought, and in the Haxtun territory, the corn was reported to be bigger and better than it had been for several years. The first Phillips County corn husking contest was also held that year. —Source: Phillips County Museum
