All-Holyoke picnic Aug. 5

   Anyone with Holyoke-area ties is invited to an all-Holyoke picnic in the Dogwood table area at E.B. Raines Jr. Memorial Park in Northglenn Saturday, Aug. 5, from 10 a.m.-3 p.m.
    This is the fourth straight year for this picnic. Organizers are members of the HHS Class of 1964. They enjoyed their 50-year class reunion in Holyoke in May of 2014, and that’s where the idea for an all-area picnic ignited. Such a great turnout was reported for the last three years’ all-Holyoke events that they’re hoping to make this one bigger and better.
    However, chief organizer Rick Nierman has announced that it’s time to pass the baton. As of the Aug. 5 picnic, he’s retiring from picnic planning.
    “Hopefully this picnic will be as good as the last three and old friendships can be renewed and a good time will be had by all,” said Nierman in a Facebook post to encourage attendance.
    “Anyone is welcome to step forward for future picnic planning and take the reins a running. I have enjoyed renewing old friendships and establishing new ones and hope to continue doing so. I am working on a project that hopefully will take off and benefit many people in the long run. The ball is still in my court, and I do not plan on passing it until the game is over Aug. 5. So I’ll see you then for a good time,” added Nierman.
