PCR shows appreciation for fair-going fans

With a weekend full of fun fair festivities, an extra-large crowd was in attendance for the Phillips County Raceway fan appreciation night July 28.
Being one of the stops on the Colorado Alliance Tour, die-hard fans were itching to see where racers would finish in the modifieds, sport mods, stock cars, hobby stocks and compacts divisions.
The thrill wasn’t limited to the regulars, however. Even those who were at the races for the first time could appreciate the freestyle motocross show, High Plains late models and a special fan appreciation meet and greet at the conclusion of the evening. Having several racers from Holyoke and neighboring communities also meant the grandstands were buzzing with energy as fans cheered for the local racers they know and love.
Although the track was quite muddy to start out with and it took some effort to get it race-ready, there were many comments throughout the night about how nice it ended up. The weather cooperated for the duration of the races, and all in all, it was a great night at the raceway.
After heat races were finished, the crowd was in for a unique and exciting halftime performance: freestyle motocross. With a large ramp set up inside the track, riders took to the air to show off their flips and tricks. With the promise of more entertainment to come, the riders turned the track back over to the cars for the feature races.
