Spanish language classes on diabetes, breast cancer offered Aug. 12

   Two free classes, taught in Spanish, are being offered to the public this Saturday, Aug. 12, at Melissa Memorial Hospital. The first, Signs and Symptoms of Breast Cancer & Risk Factors, will be from 11 a.m.-1 p.m. The second class, Prevention and Control of Diabetes, will be from 2:30-5 p.m. Both classes offer useful information for at-risk individuals, current patients and caretakers.
    In the breast cancer class, instructors will address prevention, self-exams, the importances of mammograms and physical exams, signs and symptoms, and risk factors.
    Participants in the diabetes class will learn about Type 1 and Type 2 diabetes, signs and symptoms, complications, nutrition and physical activity, risk factors, and prevention and control.
    Instructors for the classes are Juan Gomez, Ofelia Mares and Helen Orozco, who have a combined 25 years of experience as health promoters. They will be in Holyoke Thursday, Aug. 10, doing community outreach for their classes.
