HHS golfers have full week of action

It was a full week for the HHS golf team with the Burlington V/JV tourney Tuesday, Aug. 15, Eaton varsity tournament Thursday, Aug. 17, and the Yuma V/JV tourney Monday, Aug. 21.
Coach Dale Berg has opted out of participating in the Cheyenne Wells tournament Aug. 26, but replaced it with the Strasburg tournament Tuesday, Sept. 12.
Next week, the varsity will compete in Fort Morgan Tuesday, Aug. 29, and the Estes Park Invitational Thursday, Aug. 31.
HS golfers turned in a team score of 285 at Burlington with Mason King leading with 90, followed by Trey Bennett 93, Eli Meakins 102 and Xander Speicher 106. Brycce Wilber shot a 104 in the JV tourney.
Berg said all the boys were five to 10 strokes better and they were feeling more comfortable with their game. They have a good level to build on.
Dragon golfers faced tough competition in Eaton last Thursday. Twenty teams attended the tournament at the Eaton Country Club. Berg said that due to all the rain in the past few weeks the rough was very thick, and it was difficult to find the ball, let alone hit it out on the challenging course.
King shot a 96, Bennett 102, Meakins 110 and Speicher 120, giving them a team score of 308.
