Lady Dragons defeat Akron in home opener
Dragon volleyball is off to a strong start in the 2017 season, with an Aug. 29 win over Akron in the books. In a word, the team was resilient.
After winning the first set with apparent ease, the Holyoke team struggled for additional wins, eventually winning the match in four sets. Coach Hannah Petersen commended the players for fighting through adversity, noting that their win showed the team’s fight and drive.
The first set was quick with a final score of 25-17. The Akron Rams went into the second set with a vengeance, maintaining a lead throughout most of the set. Holyoke didn’t pull ahead until the very end, winning 26-24.
In the third set, Akron pulled ahead, beating the Dragons 20-25. The fourth set was another close one, with each team battling hard to take the lead. In the end Holyoke won the set 25-23 and the match. Petersen noted that each of the players pulled through in the big moments, making important plays when they mattered. Kyra Loutensock, in particular, had some clutch serves when the games were tied.
