Dragons defeated by Limon Badgers at home
The Dragon softball team put up a good fight against the Limon Badgers in its first home doubleheader Aug. 31, but the comeback ultimately fell short. “The girls played great,” coach Sherman Kage said, “but it all came down to errors.”
In each of the 13-10 and 16-7 games, Holyoke’s small mistakes added up, and as Kage pointed out, Limon is a well-coached and put-together team. Players can’t afford to commit errors against them.
Holyoke 10, Limon 13
In the first game of the night, Limon scored two in the first inning. Holyoke scored one run when Julia Casady, who took a base on balls, stole third and home. Haley Mavis hit a double, and Shianne Willmon hit a single. Holyoke’s fielding came alive in the second inning, putting away three in a row. When Limon took the field, they did the same.
Limon didn’t score in the third. With Julia Casady back at bat, she hit a single and stole another base. Molly Brown hit a triple, driving Casady home and earning an RBI before going on to score herself. The Dragons pulled ahead for a score of 3-2.
The fourth inning was where the game shifted in Limon’s favor. The visiting team managed seven runs before the Dragons could put a stop to them. In the bottom of the inning, Regan Van Overbeke hit a single and stole two bases. Sirissa Casady was walked, then took advantage of her position and stole second. Julia Casady hit a triple, sending two teammates home.
