Enterprise celebrates National Newspaper Week with contest, cash prizes
Oct. 1-7 is National Newspaper Week, and this year’s theme is “Real Newspapers ... Real News!” The Holyoke Enterprise is celebrating by giving away $117 ($1 for every year of the newspaper’s existence) in the Real People Contest.
Enterprise coverage is all about reporting the real news of Holyoke community members. But just how many names could be printed in one edition of the newspaper? In the Real People Contest, readers have a chance to guess how many community names will be listed in the Oct. 12 edition of the newspaper. Take a guess and see how close you are! Names count, no matter where they're listed in the newspaper (news articles, display ads, classified ads, cutlines, etc.). While some people may be mentioned in more than one place or more than once in a story, for the purpose of this contest, a person is only counted once. "Community people" include those who live, work, go to school or generally have Holyoke as their home base. Entries are limited to one per person, and all ages can enter the contest. The correct answer, the list of community names from the Oct. 12 edition as well as the prize winners will be published in the Oct. 19 edition of the Enterprise.
Entries must be received by the Enterprise office by 5 p.m. Tuesday, Oct. 10. Mail to PO Box 297, Holyoke, CO 80734, drop off at 130 N. Interocean Ave. or email to editor@jpipapers.com.
Because of the vibrant communities newspapers cover, print media is still alive and thriving. Click here for a column by Jerry Raehal, CEO of Colorado Press Association and SYNC2 Media, about how Colorado has one of the strongest newspaper followings in the nation.
Go grab a cup of coffee, relax and enjoy this edition of The Holyoke Enterprise during the 2017 National Newspaper Week!
