Softball struggles against Burlington

Holyoke High School softball started a doubleheader against Burlington the morning of Sept. 23. They made it through five innings of play before rain necessitated a suspension of the game.
On Sept. 26, the game resumed in the sixth inning with Burlington leading 12-9. As coach Sherman Kage noted, it’s difficult to come back from behind in such a short period of time, especially when they don’t have the momentum to work with. Burlington ended up winning the game 13-9.
In the second game of the day, the Dragons remained competitive throughout the first four innings, but Burlington pulled ahead toward the end, claiming a 15-5 victory after six innings.

Starting the game Saturday,  Burlington gained an early lead, their first six batters scoring runs and making it through the entire lineup before Holyoke could slow them down. Burlington held the Dragons and went back to bat with a 6-0 lead in the second inning. Holyoke’s outfielders rose to the challenge, catching the flies that went their way, and Burlington scored only one run.
Gabi Gordon got the Dragons going with a single, scoring a run on Regan Van Overbeke’s subsequent double. Going into the third inning trailing 7-1, Holyoke’s smart fielding kept Burlington from scoring again. At bat, Molly Brown hit a single. She then stole two bases and scored on an error, bring the score to 7-2 after three innings.
