Pleasant Valley Community Center is dissolved
Following the Oct. 16 meeting regarding Pleasant Valley Community Center, the entity is no more.
Karin Kramer reported that 34 people were in attendance at the meeting at Highline. Having gone through a packet provided by Tom Bennett including the organization’s bylaws and the land deed, members heard a motion to take one year to try to raise funds to repair the community center.
Kramer expressed her interest in keeping the community center, stating that a sense of community often depends on an anchor landmark and that the community center could continue to be that landmark for their children and grandchildren, if they put the work in. Financial obstacles seemed insurmountable to most, and the majority voted in opposition.
A motion to dissolve the entity was then passed. According to the deed, once PV Community Center is terminated, the land is to revert to the heirs of Wayne Martin. Judy (Maranville) and Robert Mendenhall of Imperial, Nebraska, were at the meeting representing the heirs. Also outlined in the deed is that any building on the land is to go to Phillips County.
Remaining at the site of the old ballpark are several pieces of old playground equipment. Charley Triplette suggested that a few of the pieces might be incorporated into the Pleasant Prairie School exhibit next to the Phillips County Museum. The Mendenhalls and the members in attendance agreed that it was a good idea. Triplette will be taking the proposal to the museum’s board of directors.
Changing the bylaws, members also voted that any money remaining in the PV Communtiy Center account after paying bills go to the Pleasant Valley Cemetery.
