NJC gallery to host ‘Minute Meditations’ photo exhibit
The Peter L. Youngers Fine Arts Gallery in ES French Hall at Northeastern Junior College in Sterling is pleased to present a collection of photographs by Lea WiseSurguy-Sophiliazo from around the world. “Minute Meditations” will run through Thursday, Nov. 9.
The mind relaxes, the eyes search, and the cracks in the sidewalk, the parking post with its remains of past cars, the wall an inch from one’s nose can all become places of beauty.
In a practice similar to Wabi-Sabi (a Japanese discipline of living that focuses on finding beauty within the imperfections of life and accepting that reality peacefully), Lea WiseSurguy-Sophiliazo documents textures from everyday objects — peeling paint, worn walls, rusting cars — and uses photographs like short meditations to see little beauties in the everyday and the mundane.
