Fairgrounds plan goes regional
YUMA PIONEER, Nov. 16 — What started as a local project to renovate and replace aging Yuma County Fairground facilities has grown into a regional, full-fledged, agricultural education and innovation center for the tri-state area.
Over the course of the past three months, the project has grown significantly as community members and regional educational institutions and businesses have voiced their desire to establish ties to a facility in one of the highest-yielding agricultural counties in Colorado. Early conversations for potential partnerships with Colorado State University and CSU Extension offices have already begun.
Aside from the need for an indoor arena and a facility able to host large-scale year-round events, conferences, farm and equipment shows and expos, sporting events, and indoor recreational and entertainment opportunities, the building would be a place of expanded learning for all ages and areas of agriculture, including proof-of-concept, cutting-edge technological innovations in the works at area universities.

School board nails down details about school day care
WAUNETA BREEZE, Nov. 16 — The Wauneta Palisade Schools’ board met Monday, Nov. 6, for its monthly meeting at the Wauneta Attendance Center. The main topic was the school’s day care. This topic was first brought up during the August meeting when the school thought it had to have a day care implemented the following week.
The board believes that this child care center will meet Nebraska’s new state mandate that enforces all Nebraska schools to have a specific room, that meets the various state requirements, for any and all nursing students and will be a good recruitment tool that will help bring in teachers with young families.
“It is a good recruitment tool and a good retention tool,” said Geier.
This school-owned child care center is only open for school employees’ children and will have the same hours as the school. This means that the day care will not be available on snow days, holiday breaks, professional development days, etc.
